Ademola Lookman Completes Move to Atletico Madrid, Becomes Second-Most Expensive Nigerian Player
Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman has officially joined Atletico Madrid from Atalanta, with the Spanish club confirming the signing on Monday, hours before the close of the 2026 European winter transfer window. The deal reportedly involves a 35 million euros fixed fee plus 5 million euros in add-ons, making Lookman the second-most expensive Nigerian footballer after Victor Osimhen.
The 28-year-old has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with Atletico, keeping him at the Wanda Metropolitano until June 2030. Lookman arrived in Madrid for medicals on Sunday after earlier being linked with a move to Turkish side Fenerbahce. The transfer ends a turbulent spell at Atalanta, where Lookman had a strained relationship with the club following his heroics in leading them to a Europa League title. He had previously refused to resume pre-season training and deleted all Atalanta-related posts from his social media in an effort to force a move. Lookman now joins Atletico Madrid as they bolster their squad for the remainder of the season.
