Abducted Travellers on Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode Expressway Regain Freedom
The Ogun State Police Command has announced the successful rescue of four travellers who were abducted on the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode expressway on Sunday.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the release in a statement issued on Wednesday.
Odutola detailed that the rescued individuals, who were freed by the anti-kidnapping team of the state police command, included a Nigerian named Mr. Ola and three Indian nationals.
“One Mr. Ola, Pujan, and two other Indians whose names are yet unknown have regained their freedom along Ogere inward Lagos Ibadan expressway. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects,” Odutola said.
The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, had directed the anti-kidnapping unit to launch an intensive manhunt for the assailants following the abduction.
The incident occurred when gunmen ambushed the travellers between the Sagamu Area Command of the Nigeria Police and Ilisan township.
Wemmy Osude, Chairman of the Ilisan Development Council, revealed that other victims were also taken into the bush by the kidnappers, but efforts are continuing to secure their release.
The rescue operation is part of the Ogun State Police Command’s ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and ensure the safety of residents and travellers in the state.
