Kwara Trains LG Finance Officers on New Accounting Standards under World Bank HOPE Project
The Kwara State Government has launched a four-day training programme for budget, finance, and audit officers from the 16 local government areas of the state to enhance financial management and accountability at the grassroots level.
The exercise, which runs from October 21st to 24th, focuses on the adoption of harmonized financial reporting guidelines and the National Chart of Accounts under the state’s Human Capital Opportunity for Prosperity and Equity (HOPE) Project — a World Bank-supported Performance for Results initiative covering governance, basic education, and primary healthcare.
The programme aims to strengthen governance systems, promote fiscal discipline, and improve service delivery across all tiers of government. It also seeks to equip local government officers with the knowledge and tools to prepare budgets, track expenditures, and generate reports in line with national and international standards.
The state’s Commissioner for Finance and Chairperson of the HOPE Project, Dr. Hauwa Nuru, highlighted the state’s ongoing reforms that have positioned Kwara among the leading states in implementing World Bank-supported programmes such as SABER, NG-CARES, and HOPE.
During the training, participants were provided with laptops to facilitate practical sessions and enhance efficiency in their respective offices. The programme also underscores Kwara’s commitment to transparency, openness, and improved coordination between state and local governments.
