Kwara Government Begins Clampdown on Noise Pollution Violators, Seals Six Facilities in Ilorin

The Kwara State Government has commenced an enforcement drive against facilities violating environmental regulations on noise pollution within the Ilorin metropolis.
During the operation on Monday, six facilities were sealed for failing to comply with prescribed noise limits.
Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge, said the exercise followed numerous complaints from residents over excessive noise, particularly in residential areas. Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Abubakar Ayinla, she explained that the ministry had exercised restraint in the past but could no longer tolerate the growing public discomfort caused by noise-generating businesses.
According to her, the ministry decided to take decisive action to ensure that all establishments operate within acceptable sound levels. She added that those whose businesses generate noise must either install proper soundproofing systems or adhere strictly to the existing environmental guidelines.
The commissioner confirmed that the enforcement exercise would continue until full compliance is achieved across the state.
Buge also urged members of the public, including religious organisations, to observe the approved noise limits — 55 decibels during the day and 40 decibels at night — noting that strict adherence is essential to safeguard public health and general well-being.
