Kwara Trains 200 Schoolchildren on Artificial Intelligence Skills

The Kwara State Government has trained 200 schoolchildren from across the state on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance creativity, innovation, and problem-solving skills.
The week-long training, themed “Future Minds Independence AI Bootcamp,” was organised in collaboration with Digital Equity Africa and held from October 1 to 5, 2025. Participants were selected from both public and private primary and junior secondary schools across the state.
Speaking at the closing ceremony in Ilorin, Mr. Temi Kolawole, Managing Director of the Ilorin Innovation Hub, stated that the initiative demonstrated the state government’s commitment to digital inclusion and youth empowerment. He commended the pupils for their creativity and innovation during the programme.
Kolawole highlighted that children under the age of 10 showcased impressive projects such as websites, storybooks, and AI-generated music. He described their achievements as a clear indication of the immense potential among young learners to shape the state’s digital future.
Chief Executive Officer of Digital Equity Africa, Mrs. Justina Nnam Oha, explained that the bootcamp aimed to build not just technological competence but also critical thinking and innovation among children. She said the programme was designed to help participants view themselves as creators in the digital age rather than mere consumers of technology.
Oha applauded the Kwara State Government and the Ilorin Innovation Hub for promoting digital literacy, adding that the participants had explored how AI systems think, create, and solve practical problems. She also appreciated her parents for supporting their children’s participation, describing it as an investment in the future.
Some of the participants, including Abdulkareem Khadijat, Ahmed Imam Ayodeji, and Aminat Akanbi, expressed gratitude to the organisers for the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with AI tools, which they said had inspired them to pursue careers in technology.
The Future Minds AI Bootcamp forms part of ongoing efforts by the Kwara State Government to equip young learners with 21st-century skills and prepare them for the demands of a technology-driven world.
