Akpabio Urges Lawmakers to Uphold Accountability, Discipline as Senate Resumes

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has charged lawmakers to embrace accountability, discipline, and purposeful governance as the Senate resumed plenary on Tuesday after a 10-week recess. In his opening address, Akpabio reminded senators of their duty to deliver results to Nigerians, warning that any attempt to weaken the legislature was an attack on democracy itself. He described governance as a sacred duty, urging colleagues to prioritize competence over political showmanship.
Akpabio also called for swift action on flood disasters across the country and commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for stabilizing state finances, noting that “no state governor is borrowing to pay salaries.” The session also saw the return of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan after her suspension, while some lawmakers appeared in Palestinian colours to show solidarity with the people of Palestine.
