Tinubu Reaffirms Unity as Non-Negotiable at Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated the commitment of his administration to strengthen national unity and ensure Nigeria remains an indivisible entity.
Speaking at the Inter-denominational Church Service held at the National Christian Centre in Abuja to mark the nation’s 65th Independence Anniversary, Tinubu, represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, stressed that unity is essential for Nigeria’s survival and progress. The service, themed “The Power of Unity in Building a Great Nation”, was attended by service chiefs, members of the diplomatic corps, senior government officials, and religious leaders as prayers were offered for peace, security, and prosperity, while participants reflected on Nigeria’s journey since independence while emphasised that despite challenges, the country has endured and continues to thrive through resilience and sacrifice.
He called for peace and harmony among citizens across regions, religions, and ethnic groups, describing unity as the foundation of national development. He also highlighted the importance of attitudinal change and collective responsibility in addressing insecurity and driving reforms across economic, infrastructural, and educational sectors.
The event featured a message from Bishop Francis Wale Oke, National President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, who urged Nigerians to rise above tribal and religious differences and embrace dialogue to resolve conflicts. He noted that the country’s diversity should be a source of strength rather than division.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, commended the military and security forces for safeguarding democracy and reaffirmed the federal government’s resolve to continue tackling security challenges.
The anniversary service underscored a shared commitment by leaders and citizens alike to sustain Nigeria’s unity and lay a stronger foundation for future generations.
