Chief of Defence Staff Calls for Strengthened Ties Between Nigerian, South African Armed Forces
The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, has called for reinforced ties between the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) to address the multifaceted security challenges facing the African continent.
Gen. Musa made the call during an official visit to the Chief of SANDF, Gen. Rudzani Maphwanya, in Pretoria, South Africa.
In a statement released by the Acting Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, on Tuesday in Abuja, the meeting was described as a crucial step towards addressing the complex challenges plaguing the continent.
The need for mutual cooperation and strengthening of bilateral ties were also emphasized. The closed-door meeting between Gen. Musa and Gen. Maphwanya focused on various strategies to address regional security issues.
They discussed the exchange of expertise and the importance of forging stronger ties between the two nations for the benefit of the continent.
Gusau noted that Gen. Musa was honored with Cannon Gun Salutes during the visit, signifying high regard and respect.
“During the meeting, the Chief of SANDF highlighted the significance of the meeting between the two largest economies and military powers on the African continent,” Gusau said.
Also present at the meeting were SANDF Chiefs of Intelligence, Policy and Plans, International Affairs, and Joint Operations, among other departmental chiefs of SANDF.
