Wizkid Becomes Most Streamed African Artist, Surpasses Burna Boy and Davido
Nigerian music sensation Ayo ‘Wizkid’ Balogun has officially become the most streamed African artist on Spotify, surpassing fellow giants Burna Boy and Davido. With an impressive 8 billion streams, Wizkid has solidified his position as one of Africa’s top musical exports, continuing to elevate the global recognition of African music.
Burna Boy follows closely in second place with 7.5 billion streams, making a strong challenge for the top spot, but falling short of Wizkid’s remarkable total. Nigerian artists have long dominated global streaming platforms, and this milestone further underscores Wizkid’s pioneering role in spreading African sounds across the world.
Rema and Tems, two of the most exciting rising stars in the African music scene, claimed third and fourth positions with 4.37 billion and 3.24 billion streams, respectively. These artists, known for their fresh sounds and collaborations with international stars, are helping to push African music into new territories.
Meanwhile, Davido, a long-time contender in the industry, secured the seventh spot with 2.5 billion streams. While his position was strong, he was edged out by the top three. CKay, Ayra Starr, Omah Lay, and Asake rounded out the top 10, with streams ranging from 2.33 billion to 1.9 billion, reflecting the growing influence of Nigerian and African talent globally.
Wizkid’s continued success, particularly with his hit “Kese (Dance)”, speaks to his ability to innovate, collaborate with international artists, and expand his fan base beyond Africa. This achievement marks yet another milestone in his storied career, which has seen him reshape the global music landscape.
