Veteran Actor Yemi Shodimu Expresses Frustration After Paying N1,000 per Litre for Petrol

Veteran Nigerian actor Yemi Shodimu has expressed his frustration on social media over the recent surge in petrol prices and the ongoing fuel shortage in the country.
Shodimu shared that he had to pay N1,000 per litre for petrol. In a TikTok video, he humorously sang a modified song, thanking God for being able to purchase 30 litres for N30,000.
“I thank God I was able to buy fuel. I thank God I was able to get fuel. N30,000 for 30 litres,” he sang, before questioning, “Are we seriously okay?”
The actor’s comments come in the wake of the government’s decision to raise petrol prices following the removal of the fuel subsidy in 2023. On September 3, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) increased its petrol price to N855 per litre at its stations. Meanwhile, some independent stations are reportedly charging as much as N1,200 per litre, prompting Nigerians to prepare for a nationwide protest.
