US President-elect Donald Trump Announces Key Appointments Ahead of 2025 Return to White House
US President-elect Donald Trump has announced two key appointments as he prepares for his return to the White House in January 2025.
Tom Homan, who previously served as the acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), has been named Trump’s “border tsar.” At 62, Homan will be responsible for overseeing the nation’s borders, including the Southern and Northern borders, as well as maritime and aviation security.
In another significant move, Trump has appointed New York Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, 40, as the US Ambassador to the United Nations. Stefanik, a rising star in the Republican Party, accepted the role and expressed her gratitude for the nomination, calling it a “true honor.”
Although an official announcement is pending, Stefanik has confirmed her acceptance and is expected to seek the support of her colleagues in the Senate to confirm her appointment.
Meanwhile, Trump’s Republican Party is edging closer to full control of the US Congress, with the GOP holding a majority in the Senate and needing just a few more seats to take the House of Representatives. With 215 seats, Republicans are just three short of the 218 needed to secure a majority, putting them in a strong position to influence legislation. Gaining control of the House would allow the Republicans to initiate spending bills and even launch impeachment proceedings against officials.
As Trump continues to assemble his team, speculation grows about other potential appointments. Billionaire Elon Musk, who played a key role in Trump’s campaign, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who ran his own presidential campaign before endorsing Trump, are reportedly being considered for roles in the new administration. Additionally, Florida Senator Rick Scott is believed to be in the running for Senate majority leader, having garnered support from key figures like Musk.
