US Embassy in Nigeria Updates Immigration Visa Process Starting January 2025
The United States Embassy in Nigeria has announced a revision to its immigration visa procedures, which will take effect from January 1, 2025.
In a statement released on its official X (formerly Twitter) page on Tuesday, the embassy revealed that applicants with interviews will now be required to visit the Consulate General in Lagos at least twice during the immigrant visa process.
“For applicants with interviews scheduled after January 1, 2025, you are required to visit the Consulate General in Lagos at least twice during the immigrant visa process,” the statement read. “This new process is designed to help you prepare for your visa interview and to prevent significant delays in processing your immigrant visa.”
Further details on the embassy’s website outlined the steps for the two visits. The first visit will be for an In-Person Document Review with a consular staff member. This review will ensure that applicants are fully prepared for their visa interviews and allow them to address any missing documents before the interview. This step is designed to minimize delays in the visa processing.
The second visit will be an interview with a Consular Officer, which will be scheduled by the National Visa Center (NVC). The embassy emphasized that failure to complete the In-Person Document Review before the interview will require applicants to reschedule their appointment.
Additionally, in a report by The PUNCH in July 2024, the embassy announced that its visa services in Abuja and Lagos will be managed by a new service provider starting August 26, 2024. This shift in service management is part of the embassy’s efforts to streamline and enhance the visa application process.
