University of Ilorin, University of Technology in Malaysia Team Up for Academic and Research Initiatives in 2025
The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) in Nigeria and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) have announced a major collaboration set to begin in 2025. The partnership between UNILORIN’s Faculty of Environmental Sciences and UTM’s Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying (FABU) aims to foster academic exchanges, research, and development in key areas such as environmental science, sustainable development, and urban planning. This collaboration is especially focused on addressing pressing environmental and infrastructural challenges faced by both countries.
At the heart of the collaboration is the Centre for Real Estate Studies (CRES) and the Real Estate Department, which will work to integrate teaching, research, and community service. The two faculties are planning to establish joint academic programs, specialized workshops, and student exchange opportunities, all designed to create sustainable solutions to local and global environmental issues. By sharing knowledge and resources, the partnership hopes to develop impactful frameworks for addressing critical challenges in urban development and sustainability.
The longstanding relationship between UNILORIN and UTM alumni has also been a key factor in making this collaboration possible. Graduates from both institutions have maintained strong professional connections, contributing to a network that has helped build trust and respect between the two faculties. This bond is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening the partnership, as alumni provide valuable insights and expertise that will enhance the collaboration’s success.
The partnership will also focus on climate change, urban sustainability, and infrastructure development, with plans to establish a joint research center to develop solutions for mitigating climate change’s effects on urban populations in both countries. Students will benefit from an interdisciplinary approach to education, equipping them with the skills needed to tackle global challenges in environmental science and the built environment sectors. This collaboration represents a significant milestone in academic relations between the two institutions, with the potential to deliver lasting benefits for students, alumni, and the communities they serve.
