Uganda Confirms One Death, Eight Infected in New Ebola Outbreak

Uganda’s Ministry of Health has confirmed nine Ebola cases, with one death, as the Sudan strain of the virus drives the latest outbreak. Seven patients are being treated in Kampala, one in Mbale, and all eight are in stable condition, while 265 contacts have been quarantined. With no approved vaccine for this strain, Uganda has launched a trial vaccination programme using a platform similar to that of the effective Ebola Zaire vaccine. However, the response faces challenges, including poor communication from authorities, resistance from businesses fearing economic losses, and vaccine hesitancy among those exposed.
