Earlier, Zelensky had stated his intention to mend ties with Trump following a heated confrontation in the Oval Office, where Vice President JD Vance accused him of being ungrateful for US support and Trump criticized his lack of leverage. Zelensky’s visit ended without signing a proposed agreement granting the US control over Ukrainian mineral resources, leading the Trump administration to suspend all military aid to Ukraine amid its ongoing conflict with Russia.
Speaking before lawmakers, many of whom displayed support for Ukraine, Trump reiterated that Ukraine was prepared to sign the minerals and security deal at a convenient time. He also revealed that discussions with Russia had signaled a strong willingness for peace, expressing optimism about the potential resolution of the conflict.
