Timaya: ‘Burna Boy Once Ordered Omawumi, Waje Out of Studio for Doubting Him’
Nigerian music icon Timaya revealed an intriguing episode involving Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy and fellow singers Omawumi and Waje during a studio session years ago.
In a recent interview with Naija FM in Lagos, Timaya recounted that Burna Boy had confidently declared he would one day be paid to board private jets, a statement met with skepticism by Omawumi and Waje.
“Nothing Burna Boy is doing now surprises me. The guy is fearless,” Timaya said. “There was one time when Burna Boy, Omawumi, and Waje were in the studio. He started saying that a time would come when he would be getting paid to enter a jet. Omawumi and Waje doubted him because back then, Nigerian artists hadn’t started flying private jets. Burna got angry, opened the studio door, and asked them to leave.”
The revelation underscores Burna Boy’s determination and self-belief, traits that have propelled him to international success, including winning a Grammy and headlining global events.
Timaya’s anecdote adds another layer to Burna Boy’s journey from being a rising star to one of Africa’s biggest music exports. Neither Omawumi nor Waje has publicly responded to the incident at the time of this report.
