Tems Expresses Gratitude to Seyi Sodimu After Facing Backlash

February 4, 2025

R&B star Temilade Openiyi, widely known as Tems, has expressed her gratitude to veteran singer Seyi Sodimu for allowing her to sample his 1997 classic Love Me Jeje in her Grammy-winning song of the same title. Tems’ Love Me Jeje won the Best African Music Performance award at the 67th annual Grammy Awards, beating out other nominees including Yemi Alade, Asake & Wizkid, Chris Brown featuring Davido & Lojay, and Burna Boy.

In a post on her X handle, Tems described Sodimu’s original song as a “timeless classic” and thanked him for his support in clearing the sample, which she said has helped bring the song back to life and earned it the recognition it deserves.
