Syria and Lebanon Agree to Ceasefire After Deadly Cross-Border Clashes And in Business

The defense ministers of Syria and Lebanon have agreed to a ceasefire after cross-border attacks resulted in 10 deaths and more than 50 injuries, amid escalating tensions between Beirut and Syria’s new Islamist-led government. The ceasefire was reached following incidents that included Syrian shelling of Lebanese villages after the death of three Syrians in Qasr, with additional accusations involving the kidnapping and execution of Syrian troops by a Hezbollah-linked group as Lebanese officials decried the continuing border violence, warning that such tensions could not persist.
