Super Falcons midfielder Deborah Abiodun has completed a move to National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club Washington Spirit.
The 21-year-old has signed a three-year contract with Washington Spirit, with an option for an additional season. Abiodun joins the NWSL club from Pittsburgh Panthers, where she spent two successful seasons.
During her time with the Panthers, Abiodun made 34 appearances, scoring 10 goals and registering three assists. Her stellar performances earned her a place on the All-ACC teams in both seasons. In 2023, she was named to the All-Conference Freshman and Third teams, and in 2024, she earned Second Team All-ACC honors.
“I’m beyond thrilled to take this next step in my career by joining Washington Spirit,” Abiodun said on the club’s official website. “This isn’t just a dream; it’s a purpose I’ve poured my heart and soul into and I’m ready to give everything I have to the game I love. Especially with a team that cares about its players’ growth and development, which makes Washington Spirit a perfect team for me to achieve my purpose.”
Abiodun, who was part of the Super Falcons squad for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, is expected to bring her talents and experience to Washington Spirit, further solidifying her place in the global football spotlight.
