Super Eagles Caretaker Coach Augustine Eguavoen Dismisses Resignation Rumors

Super Eagles caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen has dismissed reports claiming he has quit his position. The rumors surfaced following the Super Eagles’ 0-0 draw against the Amavubi of Rwanda on Tuesday.
The 59-year-old coach quickly addressed the speculations, calling them unfounded and emphasizing the importance of unity and positivity within the team during this period.
“It’s just unfortunate that people just triggered something that is not correct, and the situation we are in now, we don’t need negative stories,” Eguavoen stated upon the team’s arrival in Abuja, as quoted by BSN Sports.
Clarifying his earlier remarks, Eguavoen explained, “I only said I’m going to sit down with the hierarchy of the Federation after these two games and how I will be prosecuting the next games.”
Eguavoen assumed the role of interim head coach after the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) failed to appoint a permanent head coach in time for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
His future with the team remains subject to discussions with the NFF, as the federation continues its search for a permanent head coach ahead of crucial upcoming fixtures.
