Super Eagles Assistant Coach Optimistic After 0-0 Draw with Ghana in CHAN Qualifier
Super Eagles assistant coach, Daniel Ogunmodede has expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance following their 0-0 draw against Ghana in the first leg of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier.
The match, held in Accra on Sunday, saw the Super Eagles B team hold their rivals to a goalless draw, a result Ogunmodede viewed positively as he acknowledged that securing a spot in the 2024 African Nations Championship would provide a significant boost for the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
He further emphasized the importance of qualifying for the tournament, noting that it would enhance the value of the league, benefit the players, and elevate the profile of Indigenous coaches. He pointed out that while the draw was a good result, the team’s focus now shifts to qualifying for the upcoming competition. The second leg of the qualifier will take place on Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
The Super Eagles B team now heads into the second leg to secure a victory or at least a score draw to ensure their qualification for the 2024 CHAN.
The overall winners of the qualifier will advance to the biennial tournament, which has been delayed and is set to take place in February across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
With a competitive match ahead in Uyo, Ogunmodede and the team will be looking to build on the momentum from the first leg and secure their place in the continental tournament. A successful qualification would further showcase the strength of Nigeria’s domestic league and provide an opportunity for the country’s local players to shine on the international stage.
