Sokoto State government Launches E-Ticketing System for Mass Transit Vehicles
The Sokoto State Government has introduced an e-ticketing system for its 126 mass transit vehicles, which serve inter-state, intra-city, and inter-local government routes. This development was showcased in a demonstration to the state governor, Ahmed Aliyu, at his office, highlighting how passengers can easily obtain tickets without hassle. The e-ticketing system is part of the administration’s broader efforts to improve transparency and accountability in the mass transit sector.
Governor Aliyu emphasized that the initiative aligns with his administration’s goals of promoting a cashless system and ensuring that all transportation fares are directed into government coffers. He expressed confidence that the system would also provide value for the state’s investment in the mass transit vehicles, which are intended to enhance public transportation across various services. He noted that the new system would help reduce the mismanagement of public funds in the sector.
In addition to its financial benefits, the e-ticketing system will also improve the supervision of the state’s vehicles, allowing for better monitoring of their roadworthiness and overall performance. The governor pledged his full support for the initiative and urged the consulting firm to refine the ticket acquisition process for even greater efficiency. Aliyu also pointed out that the program, once fully operational, would create job opportunities and boost the state’s revenue.
Other participants in the demonstration, including the Special Adviser to the Governor on Mass Transit, Mode Shagari, and a representative from the consulting firm, Mr. Mahmud, lauded the e-ticketing initiative as a step in the right direction. They highlighted the benefits the system would bring to both passengers and the state government, especially as additional mass transit vehicles are set to be released in the near future.
