Sokoto Governor Warns Local Government Chairmen Against Indolence, Negligence
Ahmed Aliyu, the Governor of Sokoto State has sworn in the newly elected Local Government Council Chairmen on Monday September 23, emphasizing the importance of their presence in their respective areas.
During the ceremony at the Government House, he urged the chairmen to remain accessible to their constituents and warned against any behavior that suggests inaccessibility or neglect and firmly stated that the days of chairmen abandoning their responsibilities for leisure are over and that any chairman failing to adhere to these expectations would face serious consequences.
The governor also directed the newly sworn-in chairmen to hold regular meetings with local security agencies to address ongoing security challenges in their areas. He reiterated that tackling security issues is a key component of his administration’s 9-point Smart Agenda and urged the chairmen to prioritize this matter. Aliyu expressed his commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the state and called for community support and prayers for the administration.
Additionally, Aliyu instructed the chairmen to comply immediately with the Code of Conduct Laws and encouraged them to enhance their internally generated revenue to meet the expectations of their constituents. He highlighted the necessity for transparency and accountability, warning against any misappropriation of public funds and emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy for corruption in all local government areas.
The State Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, Ibrahim Dadi Adare, assured that an induction course would be organized to help the new chairmen understand the workings of local government councils. The swearing-in ceremony was attended by key political figures, including APC leader ,Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, the Sokoto State Deputy Governor, and various lawmakers and dignitaries, underscoring the significance of the event. The Sokoto State Independent Electoral Commission had previously declared the ruling All Progressive Congress candidates as winners of all 23 local government elections held on September 21.
