Senate Approves President Tinubu’s State of Emergency in Rivers State

The Senate has joined the House of Representatives in approving President Bola Tinubu’s proclamation of a state of emergency in Rivers State, invoking its constitutional powers under the amended 1999 Constitution. This approval grants the president authority to enforce emergency measures, subject to review within six months while a joint committee of both legislative chambers has been established to oversee governance in the state during this period as the Senate has also resolved to form a mediation committee of eminent Nigerians to help resolve the political crisis.
