Security Operatives Deployed to Osun LG Secretariats Following Court Ruling

Security agencies have deployed operatives to local government secretariats in Osun State following a Court of Appeal judgment in Akure on the dissolution of elected local government chairmen.
The ruling, which favored APC-elected officials from the October 15, 2022 elections, has led to differing interpretations by stakeholders, including OSSIEC, APC, and PDP. While the APC chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, claimed the judgment reinstated the sacked chairmen and canceled the February 22, 2025 council elections, OSSIEC Chairman Hashim Abioye insisted the polls would proceed as planned, arguing that the ruling did not order reinstatement.
The state government, through Commissioner for Information Kolapo Alimi, warned the dismissed officials against resuming office and ordered security agencies to prevent any unlawful takeover. Security personnel, including the police, Amotekun Corps, and NSCDC, were seen guarding government offices to prevent disorder. Meanwhile, APC and PDP members staged public celebrations, with APC supporters in Ede North claiming victory while PDP members in Ifedayo rejoiced over the planned elections. Despite the tensions, Amotekun Corps confirmed that the situation remained peaceful, though police and NSCDC officials were unavailable for comments.
