Rwanda Cuts Diplomatic Ties with Belgium Amid DRC Conflict Tensions And in Business

Rwanda has severed diplomatic ties with Belgium, accusing the European nation of consistently undermining it during the ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In a statement, the Rwandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation accused Belgium of taking sides in the conflict and attempting to manipulate global opinion against it while the Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot announced that Rwandan diplomats in Belgium would be declared “persona non grata,” a move that could lead to their expulsion or withdrawal of diplomatic recognition.
