President Trump Doubles Down on Tariffs, Targets BRICS Nations Over Currency Plans

US President Donald Trump reiterated his threat to impose 100 percent tariffs on BRICS nations, which include Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, if they create a currency rival to the US dollar.
Trump emphasized this stance on his Truth Social platform, warning that these countries would face severe tariffs if they moved away from the dollar or supported a new currency. “The idea that the BRICS Countries are trying to move away from the Dollar, while we stand by and watch, is OVER,” he posted on his Truth Social platform
“We are going to require a commitment from these seemingly hostile Countries that they will neither create a new BRICS Currency, nor back any other Currency to replace the mighty U.S. Dollar or, they will face 100% Tariffs,” he continued.
His remarks came just before a February 1 deadline he set to impose 25 percent tariffs on Canada and Mexico unless they address illegal immigration and the fentanyl crisis. Additionally, Trump has threatened China, a BRICS member, with a 10 percent tariff on goods due to trade imbalances and its role in the fentanyl supply.
