President Bola Tinubu has expressed his deep sadness over the tragic air accident in Washington, D.C., which resulted in the deaths of at least 18 people. The incident occurred on Wednesday night when a passenger jet, operated by an American Airlines subsidiary, collided midair with a military helicopter near Ronald Reagan National Airport, crashing into the Potomac River.
The Bombardier plane, en route from Wichita, Kansas, had 64 people on board, including 60 passengers and four crew members, while the military helicopter had three personnel. In his condolence message posted on his verified X handle, Tinubu extended his sympathies to the victims’ families and the people of the United States, commended the efforts of first responders, and reiterated Nigeria’s solidarity with the U.S. during this tragic time.
