February 6, 2025

President Bola Tinubu has announced significant leadership changes across various federal universities in Nigeria, including the dissolution of the governing council at Yakubu Gowon University and the immediate removal of Professor Aisha Maikudi as Vice-Chancellor.

Professor Patricia Manko has been appointed Acting Vice-Chancellor for a six-month term, and she will not be eligible to apply for the permanent position. Additionally, Tinubu appointed Senator Lanre Tejuoso as the new Pro-Chancellor of Yakubu Gowon University, while other key appointments include Professor Oguejiofu Ujam as Acting Vice-Chancellor at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and various changes in Pro-Chancellor positions across multiple institutions. These appointments are part of the president’s efforts to strengthen governance and academic excellence in Nigeria’s higher education system.
