Presidency Defends Tinubu, Urges Governor Bala Mohammed to Focus on State’s Issues
The Presidency has addressed recent comments made by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who criticized President Bola Tinubu for allegedly not listening to the people. During a conversation with Sheikh Sani Jingir, a prominent Muslim cleric, Governor Mohammed expressed dissatisfaction with President Tinubu’s policies, particularly how they have negatively affected the northern region. He also voiced concerns that the proposed tax reforms would worsen the poverty levels in the north and lamented the lack of communication from the president.
In its response, President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, condemned Governor Mohammed for engaging in “irresponsible politics.” Dare advised the governor to concentrate on addressing the issues facing Bauchi State instead of using President Tinubu to boost his own political standing. He emphasized that President Tinubu remains focused on improving the nation’s economy and has a four-year mandate to fulfill his promises. Dare also reassured Nigerians that they would soon see the positive effects of the administration’s reforms.
The Presidency further defended President Tinubu, asserting that he is a “listening leader” who values the institutions of the state. It emphasized that Tinubu’s election secured a national mandate, and he would not allow his leadership to be swayed by critics or political activists. On the matter of tax reforms, the Presidency encouraged anyone with concerns to follow the proper channels within the National Assembly to address their issues.
In conclusion, the Presidency challenged Governor Mohammed’s leadership in Bauchi State, questioning the governor’s effectiveness in addressing the issues facing his state, which remains one of the most impoverished in Nigeria. It urged the governor to focus on improving the lives of his constituents instead of engaging in political rhetoric. The statement reminded Mohammed that his primary responsibility lies in serving the people of Bauchi, not in criticizing the national leadership.
