Port Harcourt Refinery Set to Load 200 Trucks Daily as Crude Processing Resumes says Presidency
The federal government has announced that the Port Harcourt Refinery is now ready to load 200 trucks of petroleum products daily, following the commencement of crude oil processing at the facility.
This development comes after the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) confirmed that the refinery’s Old Wing has resumed operations, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s energy sector.
The Port Harcourt Refinery, which had undergone extensive renovations and modernization since 2021, is now back in operation. A $1.5 billion contract was secured during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari to rehabilitate the refinery, ensuring it could meet the country’s growing energy needs. With these improvements, the refinery is set to play a key role in boosting Nigeria’s local refining capacity.
According to Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser on Public Communications and Orientation to the President, the refinery’s Old Wing is currently operating at a production capacity of 60,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
Furthermore, he highlighted that this is just the beginning, as the facility’s operations are expected to significantly contribute to Nigeria’s domestic fuel supply as the government is also optimistic that the refinery’s output will help reduce the nation’s reliance on imported fuel while strengthening Nigeria’s energy infrastructure and contributing to economic growth.
