Popular Islamic Cleric Muyideen Bello Dies at 84
Popular Islamic cleric Muyideen Bello has passed away. The influential figure among Muslims in south-west Nigeria reportedly died in the early hours of Friday, although the exact details surrounding his death were not immediately available.
His death has been widely mourned, with many of his close followers and fellow Islamic clerics confirming the news on social media.
Among those expressing their grief was educationist Saheed Oladele, who shared a personal memory of his recent visit to the cleric. Oladele reflected on the last moments they spent together, noting how Bello, despite being over 80 years old, stood and talked with him for over 30 minutes. Oladele shared that he had been amazed at Bello’s strength, unaware that their meeting would be their last.
Islamic cleric Taofeeq Akeugbagold also expressed his sorrow on Facebook, describing Bello as both a father and a mentor. He offered prayers for the deceased, asking for Allah’s mercy and wishing him eternal peace. Akeugbagold described the loss as one of the saddest moments in his life, while honoring Bello’s contributions to the spiritual community.
Muyideen Bello, born in 1940, was based in Ibadan and played a prominent role as a spiritual leader of the Ansarudeen Society of Nigeria. His death marks the end of an era for his followers, who have remembered him as a wise and revered figure in the Muslim community.
