Police Dismiss Bomb Threat Rumors in Jos, Assure Public of Safety
The Jos chapter of the Nigerian police has dismissed the rumor that bombs had been planted in key areas of the city’s business district which caused widespread fear, prompting residents to evacuate parts of the city.
According to a statement from the State Police Command, a report was made regarding a suspicious, shallow hole on Ahmadu Bello Way near the Old JUTH fence, which some feared could contain an improvised explosive device (IED) which prompted the police to act swiftly and investigate the claim.
The Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, ordered an immediate response from bomb disposal experts and local officers to assess the situation. The police bomb disposal team, along with other officers, arrived at the site, cordoned off the area, and conducted a thorough examination. After completing the inspection, they confirmed that the hole posed no threat and contained no explosive devices, ensuring the safety of the public
Furthermore, he praised the residents for their vigilance and cooperation during the investigation. He assured the public that there was no ongoing threat and encouraged them to resume their normal activities, emphasizing that the city was safe and free from any security risks.
