Police Arrest Four Suspected Cultists, Others in Osun

The Osun State Police Command has apprehended four suspected cultists for attempting to murder a man identified as Samuel Friday in Iree, Boripe Local Government Area.
The suspects, identified as Ibrahim Gbadamosi (alias Gbedu), Ibiyemi Saheed (alias Mouth), Ayandiya Yusuf (alias Lakaye), and Ogunwole Najeem (alias Agali), were reportedly members of an unlawful group known as the Action Boxing Training Club (ABTC).
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Yemisi Opalola, revealed that the suspects were arrested on January 5, 2025, at around 12:30 a.m. by the Anti-Cultism Unit.
“During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that on November 12, 2024, the suspects attempted to murder one Samuel Friday in Iree town,” Opalola stated. She also noted that on December 17, 2024, the first suspect, along with others still at large, invaded Osun State Polytechnic in Iree, assaulted staff members, including the school’s Public Relations Officer, and obstructed the main entrance gate.
Additionally, the first suspect was implicated in a fatal hit-and-run accident on December 17, where he allegedly killed a 46-year-old woman, Mrs. Toyin Adetunji, while driving a Toyota Camry with registration number ABC 962 TD. The police recovered exhibits, including criminal charms and dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa.
In another case, two men, Adebayo Adesanya and Olansile Abdullateef, were arrested for allegedly defrauding a boutique owner in Ede of clothes worth ₦160,000 using a fake Opay ATM card transfer. The suspects, both from Sagamu, Ogun State, were arrested on January 10, 2025. Items recovered from them included a Toyota Venza with registration number BDG 710 H, bags of foreign rice, tubers of yam, bananas, three Opay ATM cards, and local charms.
Opalola also highlighted a case of sexual assault involving a five-year-old girl. The suspect, Aderibigbe Amos, allegedly assaulted the child on January 6, 2025. The victim was taken to the Police Medical Centre in Osogbo for treatment, and the suspect was charged to court and remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Centre.
The police assured the public that all suspects would be charged to court upon the completion of investigations.
