Peter Okoye Responds to Viral French Band’s Rendition of P-Square’s ‘Taste the Money’
Peter Okoye, known as Mr P, responded to a viral video featuring a French band performing P-Square’s hit track ‘Testimony’ (Taste the Money) at a state dinner in Paris.
The performance took place on Thursday at the Palais de l’Élysée as part of President Bola Tinubu’s three-day state visit to France, aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations.
The band’s lively Afrobeat rendition, infused with a French twist, was well received by the audience, including President Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, who appeared to enjoy the cultural exchange.
On Friday, Peter shared the video on his Instagram, captioning it with “Enjoy your weekend! 🫣 #TasteTheMoney.” The post sparked a range of reactions from his followers, with some commenting humorously on the ongoing rift between Peter and his brother Paul Okoye, known as Rudeboy. One follower suggested that since the brothers had not reconciled and returned as P-Square, fans might need to settle for an “OYIBO SQUARE.” Other comments pointed out that the French band’s rendition of the song sounded more like a choir performance than a true Afrobeat version.
This post comes amid a fresh wave of tension between the Okoye brothers. Paul recently accused Peter of taking a song titled ‘Winning,’ which Paul claims was meant for his upcoming album. The song, produced during a brief reunion of P-Square in 2022, has now become the center of their latest public dispute. This conflict adds to their long-standing issues, which led to the eventual breakup of P-Square, one of Nigeria’s most successful music duos.
Despite the ongoing friction, fans continue to hope for a reconciliation between the two brothers. P-Square’s collaboration has produced numerous Afrobeat hits that gained international recognition, and many fans still hold out hope that the duo will reunite and revive their musical partnership.
