Perm Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development Denies Receiving Mandate to Revive Nigeria Air Deal
The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Ibrahim Kana, has stated to clarify his earlier comments regarding the revival of the National Carrier Project. This comes in response to widespread speculation and public inquiries following his remarks during the ministry’s handover ceremony earlier in the week. Kana emphasized that he did not state there was a mandate to revive the failed Nigeria Air deal with Ethiopian Airlines and confirmed that he had received no such directive.
Kana explained that he was merely referring to the general vision of the administration, which considers the possibility of a National Carrier Project if it aligns with the country’s interests and is guided by the directives of President Bola Tinubu and the Honourable Minister of Aviation. His statement aimed to clear up any misunderstandings regarding his position on the matter.
This clarification follows heightened interest in Nigeria’s aviation sector, especially after the controversies surrounding the previous Nigeria Air project. Kana reiterated his commitment to supporting the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development in advancing the ministry’s goals, promising to work closely with him to drive the nation’s aviation industry forward.
Earlier, upon his appointment, Kana had outlined two key tasks given to him by President Tinubu: to ensure the establishment of Air Nigeria and to improve the condition of airports across the country. Kana expressed his belief that this was the right time for the creation of Air Nigeria, emphasizing his dedication to achieving these goals for the future of the aviation sector in Nigeria.
