Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde Loses Elder Brother

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has been thrown into mourning following the death of his elder brother, Engineer Sunday Makinde. The late Sunday Makinde passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025, at the age of 65.
The family announced the loss in a statement issued by Chief Olumuyiwa Makinde, the Bada Olubadan of Ibadanland and Head of the Aigbofa Family of Oja’ba, Ibadan.
“With a heavy heart, I announce the passage of my older brother, Engr. Sunday Makinde, to eternal glory today, Friday, 24th of January, 2025,” Chief Makinde wrote. “His sudden death occurred in his Ibadan residence at 3:20 am today.”
The deceased is survived by his siblings, including Governor Seyi Makinde, as well as children and grandchildren.
Details regarding the funeral arrangements are yet to be announced. The governor and the entire Makinde family have received an outpouring of condolences from political associates, traditional leaders, and citizens of Oyo State.
Sunday Makinde was described as a pillar of support for the family and a respected figure within the Ibadan community. His death marks a significant loss not only to his loved ones but also to those who benefited from his wisdom and guidance.
