Oyo government Approves Expansion of State Social Register to Include More Vulnerable Households
The Oyo State Government has approved the expansion of its social register, which is a crucial tool for identifying poor and vulnerable individuals eligible for social intervention programs.
This expansion was announced by the Acting Coordinator of the State Operation Coordinating Unit, Salami Ismail, during advocacy and sensitization visits to political leaders and management teams in 12 local government areas. These areas are set to participate in the 10th round of the Community-Based Targeting exercise, which aims to further enhance the reach of social assistance programs.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, emphasized that the expansion of the social register aligns with Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to supporting vulnerable households across the state.
Furthermore, Salami Ismail highlighted that the process of identifying these households is carried out through a community-driven approach known as Community-Based Targeting as this method involves ranking local government areas based on their poverty status using a verified government document.
The ranking of communities within each local government area is conducted by the Community-Based Targeting Team, which consists of trained local government officers. This process ensures that the selection of households is accurate and reflective of the current poverty status in each area, allowing for more effective and targeted social interventions across Oyo State.
