Over 90 Dead, 50 Hospitalized in Jigawa Tanker Explosion
A devastating accident in Majiya village, located in the Taura local government area of Jigawa State, has resulted in the deaths of over 100 people, with more than 50 others hospitalized.
The tragic incident occurred around 12:30 AM on Wednesday when a petrol tanker lost control and overturned.
According to Jigawa Police spokesman DSP Lawal Shiisu Adams, the tanker was traveling from Port Harcourt to Nguru in Yobe State when the driver lost control. As a result, the contents of the tanker spilled into nearby gutters and drainages, prompting villagers to scoop up the fuel.
Unfortunately, this led to a catastrophic explosion as the petrol ignited while people were collecting it. The police confirmed that the incident has resulted in 95 confirmed fatalities, with many others receiving medical treatment for their injuries.
The community is now grappling with the aftermath of this tragic event, which has left countless families mourning their losses. The authorities have expressed the need for greater caution and awareness to prevent similar incidents in the future.
