Osun APC Slams Aregbesola’s Political Group Over Defection

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has criticized The Omoluabi Progressives, a group loyal to former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, following its announcement to quit the party.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Osun APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the party described the group’s departure as “good riddance to bad rubbish,” asserting that its members had effectively abandoned the party since 2022.
The statement read: “We, in the Osun State APC, shall be happy to miss the political irritants and deviants who had since left the party by way of body and soul before the 2022 governorship election in the state.
“How would any rational human being who has been suspended or expelled announce his resignation to the whole world again? Is that not an example of superfluity? You cannot claim to be part of our party while working against its interest.”
The APC accused the group of covertly serving the interests of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State and labeled them “political renegades.”
The statement continued, “The recent announcement of your either forming or joining another party is the imminent beginning of your political funeral, which will end in your final burial through the 2026 governorship election.
“Osun APC is waxing stronger by the day. Our message to the frustrated Omoluabi Progressive handlers is that whoever wants to bury his elder brother nakedly should take along his younger brother in order to show the latter how he too would be buried at the end of his journey of life.”
This comes after The Omoluabi Progressives, in a statement issued on Sunday by its Organising and Publicity Secretary, Abosede Oluwaseun, confirmed their departure from the APC. The group cited a unanimous decision reached by stakeholders during a meeting in Ilesa, following the resolution of members from all 332 wards of Osun State.
The split signals a deepening rift within Osun APC, as the party braces for potential challenges ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
