NYSC DG Issues Stern Warning on Criminal Activities for Corps Members
The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General YD Ahmed, has urged Corps members to uphold high moral standards during their service years and avoid any involvement in criminal activities.
He emphasized that the NYSC is a program for individuals of good character who are eager to contribute positively to the development of their host communities. General Ahmed made these remarks while addressing the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream One Corps Members at the NYSC Kwara State Orientation Camp in Yikpata, Edu Local Government Area.
General Ahmed made it clear that there is no immunity for Corps members who break the NYSC Bye-Laws or any laws of the country and cautioned them against engaging in criminal activities such as drug abuse, fraud, and hooliganism, which could lead to severe consequences. He also warned against the dangers of night travels and stressed the importance of respecting authorities, noting that any offender would face appropriate sanctions.
The Director-General also reminded the Corps members about the importance of adhering to the NYSC dress code, which he said is essential for maintaining discipline and upholding the dignity of the Scheme. His message highlighted that following the rules and regulations would not only ensure their safety but also enhance their personal growth and the success of their service year.
In a presentation during the event, NYSC Kwara State Coordinator, Mr. Joshua Onifade, shared the camp situation report, stating that a total of 1,319 Corps members, including 593 males and 726 females, had been registered. He commended the Corps members for demonstrating a high level of discipline and responsibility since their arrival at the camp, indicating that they had conducted themselves in an orderly manner in all their assigned duties.
