NSCDC Deploys 2,500 Officers Across Kwara to Ensure Security During Yuletide Season
The Kwara State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Umar Muhammed, has ordered the deployment of 2,500 officers to safeguard national assets and to ensure the security of residents during the Yuletide season.
A statement from the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ayoola Michael, confirmed that the officers have been strategically stationed across the state’s 16 local government areas to promote peace and security throughout the holiday period.
The personnel deployed include officers from specialized units such as the Armed Squad Unit, Operation Harmony, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive Unit (CBRNE), and the Anti-Vandal Unit. Dr. Muhammed highlighted that plain clothes operatives from the Intelligence and Investigation Department have also been assigned to conduct round-the-clock surveillance, as well as overt and covert patrols of key areas including recreational spots, religious centers, marketplaces, and locations with critical government infrastructure.
Emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace during the festive period, Dr. Muhammed urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. He reassured the public that the NSCDC would collaborate with other security agencies, including local vigilantes, to ensure a safe and enjoyable Yuletide and New Year celebration for all. The commandant also conveyed his warm Christmas and New Year greetings to the people of Kwara State.
In a stern warning to criminal elements, Dr. Muhammed cautioned those planning to vandalize government property, emphasizing that such actions would result in severe legal consequences, including a 21-year prison sentence without the option of a fine. He urged the public to remain security-conscious, stay alert, and report any suspicious activities to the nearest authorities to ensure the safety of the state during the holiday season.
