NPFL Chairman Gbenga Elegbeleye Urges Super Eagles B Players to Give Their Best in CHAN 2025 Qualifiers Against Ghana

December 3, 2024

The Chairman of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Hon Gbenga Elegbeleye, has urged the players invited to the Super Eagles B camp to qualify for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) to give their best performance in the upcoming qualifiers against Ghana. Elegbeleye, who congratulated the 30 players called up by Head Coach Augustine Eguavoen, emphasized that the team, made up of the best talents in Nigeria’s domestic league, must strive to secure a spot in the finals of the continental competition scheduled for February 2025 in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

The CHAN tournament is exclusively for players who are active in their home country’s domestic leagues and possess standard contracts. Elegbeleye reminded the players that they are representing not only the Super Eagles but also the entire NPFL, urging them to make a strong statement both in the qualifiers and at the finals.

“As the best of the NPFL, you are expected to give a very good account by not only going past the qualifiers but also contesting for the title at the finals,” Elegbeleye said, encouraging the team to show their readiness for the challenge ahead.

The squad includes experienced players like veteran Rabiu Ali of Kano Pillars, who has scored eight goals this season. Other notable players on the list include Remo Stars’ goalkeeper Kayode Bankole, Rivers United defender Steven Mayo, and Abia Warriors’ forward Sunday Megwo, known for his exciting play. Enyimba goalkeeper Henry Ozoemena, Remo Stars’ wing-back Ismail Sadiq, Enugu Rangers’ midfielder Kazeem Ogunleye, and Nasarawa United forward Anas Yusuf also made the list.

Defenders like Victor Collins of Nasarawa United, who was recently called up for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, and Plateau United’s Adamu Abubakar have also been included in the squad.

The players are expected to report to the Remo Stars Sports Institute in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State, on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, for training ahead of the qualification matches. The first leg against Ghana’s Black Stars B will take place at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, December 22, 2024. The return leg will be held at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Saturday, December 28, 2024.
