NNPCL Clarifies Port Harcourt Refinery Products Will Not Be Available for Bulk Sales Yet
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced that petroleum products from the recently restarted Port Harcourt Refinery Company (PHRC) will be exclusively sold through its retail outlets for the time being.
According to Olufemi Soneye, the company’s chief corporate communications officer, the products, including petrol, diesel, and kerosene, are being distributed only at NNPCL-operated stations.
Production at the PHRC, located in Eleme, Port Harcourt, resumed on Tuesday, with plans to roll out at least 200 trucks of products daily. However, Soneye clarified that the refinery has not yet begun bulk sales of its products, nor has it opened a purchase portal for external buyers. The NNPCL has also not fully dispensed products it procured from the Dangote Refinery, which include the necessary Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) fees.
The clarification follows statements from the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN), whose members await the new petrol price template from the refurbished PHRC. The association’s members are particularly interested in understanding how the price adjustments from the PHRC’s products will impact the retail market.
Soneye further emphasized that the NNPCL is still finalizing the necessary processes before commencing bulk sales and opening the purchase portal. In the meantime, the products currently available at NNPCL stations are sourced from the Dangote Refinery, and prices are reviewed and adjusted as required.
