Nine Miners Trapped in Flooded Coal Mine in Northeast India
At least nine workers are trapped inside a flooded coal mine in the Dima Hasao district of Assam, northeastern India, with fears that three of them may be dead.
The miners became trapped on Monday when water from an adjacent unused mine flooded the site as rescue teams have been working tirelessly to locate the trapped workers, but while three bodies have been spotted, they have not yet been recovered.
According to local officials, the mine shaft is approximately 150 feet deep, with nearly two-thirds of it filled with water as the situation has been complicated by the challenging conditions, while divers, helicopters, and engineers have been deployed to assist in the operation.
