Nine Arrested as Lagos Taskforce Removes Traders from Ikotun BRT Station
Officials from the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce carried out an operation at the Ikotun BRT bus station, dislodging street traders and confiscating their illegally displayed goods as the operation was part of the state’s ongoing efforts to maintain order and ensure the proper use of public spaces.
The Commissioner for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the action in a statement, noting that the task force had seized various items being unlawfully displayed by vendors around the bus station and its surrounding areas. He emphasized that the operation aimed to clear the area of the illegal activities that had turned the bus station and nearby roads into commercial hubs.
Wahab stated that the task force had monitored compliance and carried out enforcement to restore order at the Ikotun BRT station, which had become overrun by street vendors. During the operation, nine individuals were apprehended and will face legal charges. Wahab assured that the Lagos state government would continue to enforce laws to maintain public order and curb the illegal use of public spaces by traders.
