Nigeria’s Chidimma Adetshina Shines as First Runner-Up at Miss Universe 2024

November 18, 2024

Chidimma Adetshina, Nigeria’s representative at the 73rd Miss Universe competition, emerged as the first runner-up in a dazzling finale held at Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico.

The early Sunday morning showdown saw an electrifying final moment between Adetshina and Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, with the latter ultimately claiming the coveted crown. Theilvig succeeds Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua, Miss Universe 2023.

The competition, celebrated for its emphasis on talent, intelligence, and elegance, featured contestants from across the globe. This year’s edition has been hailed as one of the most exciting in recent memory.

Adetshina’s poise, intelligence, and charm captured the admiration of judges and audiences worldwide, earning her the runner-up position and putting Nigeria in the spotlight once again.

In a celebratory post, the Miss Universe organizers acknowledged the intense final moments: “The final two! Nigeria and Denmark, two incredible women, one unforgettable moment.”

Adetshina’s journey to the global stage has been marked by determination and resilience. Earlier this year, she made headlines after withdrawing from the Miss South Africa 2024 contest despite advancing to the final stage, following debates about her nationality. She later represented Taraba State and won the Miss Universe Nigeria title.

Adetshina’s achievement recalls the legacy of Nigerian beauty queens on the global stage. Notably, Agbani Darego made history on November 16, 2001, as the first Black African to win the Miss World title. Darego’s triumph became a cultural milestone for Nigeria and the continent, with her name synonymous with beauty and elegance.

Adetshina’s accomplishment is another proud moment for Nigeria, demonstrating the country’s ability to shine on the global stage in beauty, talent, and grace. Her performance at Miss Universe 2024 is a testament to her dedication and the growing recognition of African representation in international pageants.

The next chapter in Adetshina’s journey promises to be as inspiring as her performance at Miss Universe, with fans eagerly anticipating her future endeavors.
