Nigerian Referee Yemisi Akintoye to Officiate at 2024 WAFCON

June 11, 2025

Nigerian referee Yemisi Eunice Akintoye has been selected by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as one of 18 officials for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), set to be hosted in Morocco from July 5 to 26, 2025. A FIFA-badged official since 2020 and a member of the Lagos State Football Referees Council, the 30-year-old earned her spot after excelling in technical and fitness assessments during a recent preparatory course in Cairo. Akintoye has previously officiated in top tournaments like the CAF Women’s Champions League and WAFU B competitions, while Nigeria’s Super Falcons, nine-time champions, are drawn in Group B alongside Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria.
