Nigerian President Tinubu Allocates ₦4.91tn for Defence and Security In 2025 Budget
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced that the Federal Government is earmarking ₦4.91 trillion for defence and security in the 2025 fiscal year, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to securing the nation and addressing critical challenges to national sovereignty.
Tinubu disclosed this on Wednesday while presenting the 2025 Appropriation Bill, titled “The Restoration Budget: Securing Peace, Building Prosperity,” to a joint session of the 10th National Assembly in Abuja.
The budget also allocates significant funding to other critical sectors, with ₦4.06 trillion set aside for infrastructure, ₦2.48 trillion for health, and ₦3.5 trillion for education.
In his address, the president underscored the importance of security as the bedrock of national progress. He highlighted the increased funding for the military, paramilitary, and police forces, noting that these investments are essential to protecting Nigeria’s borders and maintaining government control across the country.
“Security is the foundation of all progress. We have significantly increased the funding for the military, paramilitary, and our police forces to secure the nation, protect our borders, and consolidate government control over every inch of our national territory,” Tinubu said.
He affirmed that the government would provide security forces with modern tools and technology to enhance their effectiveness, while also prioritizing their welfare.
“Boosting the morale of our men and women in the armed forces will remain our government’s top priority. The officers, men, and women of our Armed Forces and the Nigerian Police Force are the shield and protectors of our nation. Our administration will continue to empower them to defeat insurgency, banditry, and threats to our sovereignty,” Tinubu said.
The president reiterated the administration’s deliberate and resolute approach to implementing the 2025 budget, which he described as a roadmap to strengthening the nation’s economic and social foundations.
“With this budget, our priorities are clear. We are addressing the critical sectors essential for growth and development while ensuring the safety and prosperity of our people,” he said.
The presentation of the 2025 Appropriation Bill signals the government’s continued focus on national security, infrastructure development, and social services as pillars of its economic recovery and growth agenda.
