Nigerian Meteorological Agency Warns of Nationwide Thunderstorms from September 23 to 25
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast predicting thunderstorms across the country from Monday, September 23, to Wednesday, September 25, 2024.
The forecast highlights that morning thunderstorms are expected on Monday in parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, and Borno states. Throughout the day, additional thunderstorms are anticipated over Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Taraba, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Sokoto states.
In the Federal Capital Territory and neighboring areas, thunderstorms are also predicted during the morning hours, with the likelihood of rain extending into Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, Plateau, and Kwara states. As the day progresses into the afternoon and evening, isolated thunderstorms may develop in Kwara, the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Benue, and Kogi states.
Additionally, NiMet forecasts that rain will affect the southwest inland regions, particularly Oyo, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, and Ogun, as well as the coastal states of Lagos, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa during the morning hours. Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over Enugu, Edo, Ebonyi, Ondo, Abia, Osun, Imo, Ekiti, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, and Lagos states.
Residents are advised to exercise caution, especially in flood-prone areas, as there is a significant risk of urban flooding due to the anticipated heavy rains. NiMet warns that strong winds may accompany the thunderstorms, and the public should follow safety advisories from relevant authorities.
